TOHEFCU understands that mistakes happen. Once in awhile there are not enough funds in a checking account to cover all the debits. Overdraft fees can add up and negatively impact your budget, but with a TOHEFCU checking account you have several options to prevent an overdraft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Account Protection from Savings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Use your primary savings or sub-savings account to prevent bounced items by having funds automatically transferred from your linked savings account to your checking account. A $2 fee will apply per transfer. Fee Schedule<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Account Protection from Line of Credit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An Overdraft Line of Credit or a Standard Line of Credit can also protect you against bounced items. Funds will automatically be transferred from your line of credit to your checking account when your account is overdrawn. Your life is busy and it can be easy to lose track of your checking account balance.  That’s why the Town of Hempstead Employees FCU offers Courtesy Pay, a service that adds a measure of protection to your checking account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Courtesy Pay may cover your checks and preauthorized electronic withdrawals that would otherwise be returned for insufficient funds. Instead of returning a check or electronic withdrawal to the merchant, TOHEFCU may pay your item up to a limit of $400 for one low fee per covered overdraft transaction. This helps protect you from returned check fees, merchant penalties, and the inconvenience of declined payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are happy to review Courtesy Pay and its features with you, along with giving you other options to add convenience and ease to your account. Courtesy Pay is an optional service that covers checks and ACH transactions and requires a signed opt-in form for enrollment. It does not cover ATM or one-time debit card transactions. *Courtesy Pay is a discretionary service and not a contractual obligation. TOHEFCU may decline to pay any overdraft at its sole discretion, and use of the service does not guarantee continued availability. Eligibility is limited to members in good standing and the service may be suspended or revoked based on account activity. Any overdraft must be repaid promptly, typically within 30 days.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\n\n

How can I avoid an overdraft?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Keep track of your deposits, purchases, and ATM withdrawals<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Balance your account monthly by reviewing your statement or account transactions online<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Monitor your account regularly online to review transaction activity and balances<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Set up custom alerts via online and mobile banking to notify you of specific transactions and low balances<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Repayment of Overdrafts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Any account overdrawn through Courtesy Pay is expected to be brought to a positive balance within 30 days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When Courtesy Pay May Not Apply<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The Credit Union may decline to pay an overdraft in certain circumstances, including but not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • The member is not in good standing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The account is not eligible for Courtesy Pay<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The overdraft exceeds the established limit<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The account has a history of excessive overdraft usage<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The Credit Union determines there is an increased risk of loss<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
